Although COVID-19 prevented the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts from an in-person 76th annual meeting in 2021, fund-raising efforts to support MACD Endowment Fund Scholarships continued virtually with a Drawdown and a Gun Raffle.

Winners in the January 21 drawings were: Paul Myrick of Jasper County and C4 Properties of Marshall County in the Drawdown, and; Jim Harreld of Madison County in the raffle for a Browning Maxus 12-gauge shotgun.

The Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts Endowment Fund annually funds five scholarships, each in the amount of $5,000, to Mississippi College sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students currently enrolled in college.

The scholarship may be used at a two-year junior college or a four-year college in Mississippi. Scholarships are open to students pursuing a Natural Resource field of study.

MACD President Anita H. Cowan expressed her gratitude to all for participating in the Drawdown and Gun Raffle:

On behalf of the MACD Board, I thank you for being a part of our very successful Drawdown and Gun Raffle.

With your help, we raised $16,650 with the Drawdown and $4,960 with the Gun Raffle, for a total of $21,610.

This results in a net (after expenses) contribution of $14,610 to our Scholarship Fund.

This is truly a wonderful accomplishment for the youth of our state in such challenging times.

Please pass this on to the individuals to whom you sold tickets when you have the opportunity.

I also want to express a special thanks to Herman Dungan and Pete Hunter for their donation of the gun used in the raffle.

Thank you for your continued support of the MACD.

Stay safe!

Anita H. Cowan, MACD President
